Croton Students Celebrate 100 Days Of School

Students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School in Croton-on-Hudson searched for 100 Hershey Kisses on the 100th day of school. Second-grade students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School in Croton-on-Hudson were transformed into 100-year-old versions of themselves on the 100th day of school.

Croton Fourth-Graders Teach Parents On Specials Night

Lucille F. Correnti, 82, Of Croton

HUDSON, N.Y. Lucille F. Correnti, 82, of Croton-on-Hudson, died Tuesday, Feb. 17. She was 82. She married John Correnti on June 6, 1953, and later became an administrative assistant to the superintendent of schools for the Croton-Harmon school district. Correnti is survived by her husband; their two daughters and one son Florence Gange of Robbinsville, N.J., Deborah Correnti of Croton-on-Hudson and John Correnti of Wayne, N.J.; three grandchildren, Joseph Correnti, Lisa Gange and Erin Gange; and her sister, Marie Stull of West Chester, Pa.

Cortlandt's Li'l Peeps Enjoy Musical Valentine's Day

The L'il Peeps program at The Cortlandt School of Performing Arts, located in northern Croton-on-Hudson, celebrated Valentine's Day and enjoyed singing, movement, composing a song, playing the piano and reading rhythms, all in the Valentine's Day theme. Students went home with some special gifts, including a musical heart-themed mobile, designed by their teacher.

Hen Hud's Dana Smith Named National Achievement Finalist

Hendrick Hudson High School senior Dana M. Smith has been named a finalist in the 2015 competition for the National Achievement Scholarships, an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding black American high school students. Smith, an outstanding artist and student, is the daughter of Leigh Fludd-Smith and Peter Smith, of Croton-on-Hudson.

Croton Fourth Graders Celebrate Colonial Day

Croton-Harmon fourth graders discovered girls were given less challenging words to spell during a gender-separated spelling bee in Dame School during Colonial Day. CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Carrie E. Tompkins fourth graders got into character for the annual Colonial Day, donning clothing and headwear true to the American Colonists while rotating through different activities on Friday, Jan. 23. With help from parent volunteers, students grabbed a hammer and nail in the tinsmithing workshop, were scolded for spelling bee errors in Dame School and played and made their own Colonial games.
