Windstorm Sends Tree Through Roof Of Croton House

No one was injured Wednesday night when the gusty storm caused a large spruce tree to fall on a Croton-on-Hudson house and leave its roof open to rain, fire officials said. Croton firefighters were called to the scene about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency responders rescued a teenage boy and his and dog who were trapped on an island at JCC Camp Discovery in Croton-on-Hudson Saturday afternoon, the Croton Fire Department said. The 13-year-old Croton resident and his dog were stranded on an island in the middle of the icy water.

Director of educational programs at NYC zoos dead at age 55

Lisowy, who was battling cancer, was in charge of education programming at the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, New York Aquarium, Queens Zoo, and Prospect Park Zoo. Lisowy dedicated his career to the field of informal science education and also worked for a short time at the New York Botanical Garden.

Man Slumped Over Wheel On 9A Charged With DWI, Police Say

A 67-year-old Croton-on-Hudson man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated recently after police found him slumped over the wheel of a car stopped in the middle of Route 9A, according to authorities. Lawrence Brooks, who was found to have previously been convicted of DWI in 2009, was found to be drunk after a state trooper found him passed over behind the wheel on Feb. 14, state police said.

Croton Students Perform In Rivertowns Music Festival

Student musicians from four different middle schools in the Rivertowns came together over the weekend for the two-day Ninth Annual Rivertowns Music Festival, held this year at Ossining High School. The festival culminated with a combined concert on Saturday by students from Sleepy Hollow Middle School, Briarcliff Middle School, Ossining's Ann M. Dorner Middle School and Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School in Croton-on-Hudson.

Students Collect 620 Food Cans For Cortlandt Food Bank

Tompkins Elementary School showed their school and favorite sports team spirit by surpassing a schoolwide goal to collect 600 cans of food for the Cortlandt Emergency Food Bank. The annual weeklong Souper Bowl coincided with Super Bowl 50 and encouraged students to use their enthusiasm for the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers to make a difference in the local community.

Though Raga Indian Cuisine in Croton-on-Hudson got a fair review overall, food choices, such as batter-fried cauliflower, pakora, samosas, shrimp and chicken tandoor were favorably regarded in a New York Times review. Croton Man Charged With Pot Possession After Philipstown Stop

A Croton-on-Hudson man who was a passenger in a car pulled over by police in Philipstown now faces drug possession charges, police said. Efrain R. Burgos, Jr., 27, was arrested by Putnam County sheriff's deputies on Saturday, Jan. 30, on Route 9. Burgos was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

She is survived by her husband, Howard "Boots" Adams; children Noah Adams and Jodi Anderson; siblings Brieant Stephens, Carol Wetherwax and Virginia Taggart; and grandchildren Noah Adams Jr., Dennis Adams and Jordan Anderson. Sally R. Dow, 80, Retired Children's Librarian In Ossining.

Sally R. Dow, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson for more than 50 years, died Thursday, Jan. 28. She was 80. She was a graduate of the Walnut Hill School, Connecticut College and Simmons College, where she received her master's degree in library science. She worked as a librarian at Harvard University and the New York Public Library before moving to Croton with her husband, Bryden M. Dow, in 1963.
