Croton Point Park Garners State, Federal Funds To Strengthen Ecology

New York State and federal funds of $630,000 will be used to "strengthen the ecological health of the Croton landfill" at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, according to County Executive Rob Astorino and New York State Sen. Terrence Murphy announced Monday. Astorino praised Murphy's office for obtaining $500,000 in state funds to cover most of the project, and the County Soil & Water Conservation District for obtaining the $135,000 balance in federal funding, said the announcement.

Croton Firefighters Put Out 2 Brush Fires, Help Rescue 11 Stranded Boaters

The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department extinguished two brush fires and rendered assistance during a dramatic boat rescue on the Hudson River on Saturday. During the first incident, companies were called to Route 9 near Municipal Place for a brush fire about 12:40 p.m. Two hours later, Engine 119 and Engine 120 investigated an activated fire alarm at a Truesdale Drive home, which appeared to be a malfunction.
